Memories of Marlborough Inspire Future Gift

Stacie Cheng with her familyAs an executive in the tech industry, Stacie Cheng '89 is accustomed to being the only woman in the room. She first experienced this phenomenon as an undergraduate majoring in applied mathematics at Yale University, but it never bothered her. In fact, Stacie believes Marlborough School prepared her to stand out and lead with confidence.

"I remember having such in-depth conversations with Marlborough faculty," Stacie says. "My English teacher, for example, always talked to us like we were her intellectual equals."

At the time, Stacie understood that Marlborough School was a special place. And, as the years have passed, she's developed an even stronger appreciation for the education she received. This realization helped inspire Stacie and her husband to make a gift to the school in their estate plan.

"The school played an outsized role in who I am today," Stacie says, noting that she attended during the key formative ages of 11 to 17. "Giving back was a natural extension of my gratitude."

By remembering Marlborough in her estate plan, Stacie became a member of the Mitchell Society. These 102 individuals have a vision for sustaining the school beyond their own lifetimes.

"I hope Marlborough continues to help many future generations of girls," Stacie says. "It's been here for almost 150 years, and I look forward to it being here for another 150 years and more."
