Alumna Finds Meaning in Supporting Marlborough

Dueck family

As an incoming seventh-grader, Kirsten Hammer Dueck '89 remembers being paired with a "big sister" who already knew the ropes at Marlborough School.

"It was just one of hundreds of mindful decisions the school made to make our experiences as rich as they could be," she says.

For Kirsten, that rich experience included dedicated mentors, meaningful extracurricular activities, lifelong friends and a passion for service that developed into a professional career. Kirsten has held fundraising positions and is currently a senior program officer with the PATH Foundation, where she helps build community health programs.

These roles inspired Kirsten to think about how important it is to support organizations you care about. In 2010, Kirsten and her husband became members of the Mitchell Society when they decided to include Marlborough School in their estate plan.

"There are all these simple ways that an ordinary person can give back," she says. "Whether it's a single line in your will or making Marlborough a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or your 401(k), it's so easy to do."

Kirsten will be celebrating her 30th reunion at Marlborough this year, but as she looks back, she notes that it's equally important to look forward.

"Marlborough is an even more exceptional place today than it was 30 years ago," she says. "In 30 years, it will probably be even more exceptional than it is right now. I'm honored to be able to support this place that means so much to me."
